While I grow farther removed from the spaces I grew up in, I look forward to my brief return home. Home is often complicated most of the time, however, I look forward to accessing the spaces I often played in on my Grandpa's farm-abandoned sheds, open fields, wrecked cars, etc. These hollowed out shells of once used tools, homes, and environments allowed me to explore an existence beyond my own during a time when I often wasn't understood by those around me.
I scanned these spaces through photogrammetry, granting me access to a 3D rendered version of the worlds that raised me so harshly. Alongside these scans, I also created an archive of 3D rendered, generated objects, mostly unintelligible or lacking a "true" recognisable form. These objects, crafted on the tellings of imagined histories of a girlhood I never lived in an embodied or real/true sense, are placed in conversation with the scanned spaces I grew up in. By housing these false, virtual objects within the digital navigation of these spaces, the objects stand out, magically floating and rotating through the ruins of my rural upbringing-removed, individual, and separate from the rest of the world.
By creating this large set of false artifacts, I am able to think beyond my own lived histories, crafting new ways forward through embodying the false histories and healing the lived histories.
